Be A Tiger For Kids

Thank You For Being A Tiger For Kids!

Thank you to all who attended Cornerstone’s 4th annual Be A Tiger For Kids event on August 18th at Comerica Park.  This event raised money for much-needed scholarships for our students.

More than 7,000 friends came out to support Cornerstone students.  The pre-game Rock-N-Roar Tailgate Picnic at Ford Field was fun for everyone. Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and his wife Yvette, longtime Cornerstone supporters, stopped by and gave a rousing endorsement of Cornerstone Schools during the pre-game ceremony.  Ken Cockrel, Detroit City Council President, was also there in support.  Former Tigers players Gates Brown, Willie Horton, Dave Bergman, Dan Petry and Dave Rozema signed autographs for nearly 200 fans.  Big Boy and Pepsi provided tasty food and beverages.  Larry Lee and The Back in the Day Band brought their musical magic.  The weather was spectacular and the Tigers rallied in the 9th to post a win against the Mariners!

Our team captains were vital, bringing many people to the event, and we are grateful for their efforts.  Thanks to Jim Boyes and Shannon Richey, Larry Denton and Larry Leib, Gina Gamble and Travis Millward, Laura Kegley and Lisa Bower, Shane Rogers and Rose Taube, Dave Eberly and Jeff Petherick,  Brenna Mansfield, and Karl Zimmerman and Tim Bearden for championing this recruitment effort.

The Cornerstone Honors Choir sang the National Anthem.  Cornerstone Partner Van Fox and teacher Ann Conley threw out the first pitches, and several Cornerstone Partners and students took the field with the Detroit Tigers: Dana Locniskar and Caleb Nelson, JoAnna Boeckl and David Hardy, Pam Peper and Bunia McGuire-Smith, Ron Butler and Akil Lewis, Benn Gilmore and Re’menton Crawford, Yvette Bing and Rickel Gee, Lewis Dale and September Ramseur, Carol Denton and Dalyn Henderson, Don Kegley and Maliq Carr, and Dan Ward and Amami Karim.

We would also like to thank our generous event sponsors for all the ways that they support Cornerstone:
