Welcome to the Cornerstone Community Page!

We are honored to share with you the heartfelt stories of our students, teachers, partners, and friends of their experiences with Cornerstone Schools. We hope these words of hope, change, and growth will touch you as much as they have us.

"I have been a Cornerstone partner for approximately 5 years now.   Initially, I started as a substitute for another partner who could not attend partner morning.  Ever since that time, I have looked forward to each partner morning because it has been and continues to be a very wonderful and rewarding experience for me.  The staff and the students make each visit so worthwhile.  You can see that the staff really have the students best interest at heart."

"If somebody asked me to sum Cornerstone up in one word, I would have to say "family". Every time the thought of Cornerstone comes to mind I think back on my middle school years and I remember the closeness that I formed with my teachers and fellow classmates.  Cornerstone goes beyond the classroom, the teachers care about every single child that walks into that school and treats them like their own.  The teachers care what their student have achieved even years after we've graduated. Only a true family would care that much for each other.  Cornerstone gave me opportunities to experience things I probably would not have experienced going to another school and I will forever be grateful to Cornerstone. I will always consider Cornerstone apart of my
family."

“My academic career at Cornerstone truly laid the foundation for everything I have achieved today. Cornerstone taught me the importance of a solid work ethic and strict study habits—all within the framework of a caring, nurturing environment that made me truly believe that I could be anything I wanted to be.”

Crystal R.  Lee, M.D.
Cornerstone Graduate (1991-1993)

"Cornerstone Schools understand the importance of involving all the stakeholders in the educational process. From the student, to the parent, the teachers and administrators to those in the community, when all of these individuals rally together you end up with a win-win scenario. And, bottom-line that's what education is about - helping ourstudents see themselves as winners in the pursuit of life."

Joan Gist

“Education at Cornerstone goes far beyond what is learned in the classroom. My three years there in Middle School really provided me with a positive outlook on the world from an inner city perspective. The support system—and subsequent bonding—is incredible, with each teacher really having a vested interest in each student.  Self worth and a sense of community are instilled in each Cornerstone student, which remains long after your days at Cornerstone have been completed.”

" I have been invited to visit Corner- stone School on Nevada for the first time in June.  Just 50 years ago Frank Cody High School opened on Detroit's west side to educate over 3200 students. Now, this school will be closed soon and the students will scramble to find either a suitable replacement or just plain quit. How can these students be given just these two choices? It's unbelievable to me.  It seems to take a lifetime to learn that of the very few things, which belong to us individually, that cannot be taken away from us...our education is one of them. What we learn at school, in our home, and in our church, will always remain with us and should be held dear to our heart as a prized possession belonging to no one else.  I am very much looking forward to supporting Cornerstone Schools as best I can and meeting some of their students."

“Giving back to the community through my affiliation with Cornerstone has been extremely gratifying, both from a personal and corporate perspective. Education is one of the keys to the revitalization of our city and our region. Cornerstone has a proven record of excellence. By broadening the base of support for Cornerstone, we can strengthen the educational program for hundreds of children. From a personal standpoint, the relationship among Partners and the children is a unique aspect of the Cornerstone experience."

“Simply put, Cornerstone is delivering a top quality product under difficult circumstances and they’re involving the community to do it. It’s clearly one of the most meaningful things we do.”
