WHAT TO EXPECT
Adult partners and students develop meaningful connections during four Partner Mornings throughout the school year. On these days, the partners learn about the students’ progress and work with the children on projects in the classrooms.
Partners expect to:
- Attend planned activities and events, listen, and ask questions.
- Share their journeys in education, careers, and family with their students.
- Send notes of encouragement.
- Respect the confidentiality of their relationships with their students and his or her family.
Students expect to:
- Develop trusting relationships with their Partners.
- Share academic progress with their Partners.
- Send their Partners thank you notes.
- Talk about themselves and their families with their Partners.
PARTNER GUIDELINES
Cornerstone wants you to develop a relationship with your student, and we provide some guidelines to assure that the program works for all of our students equally.
Meeting Outside of School
We ask that you not spend time with your student outside of scheduled Partner events. Partner Mornings offer a wonderful opportunity to develop a relationship with the student you sponsor, but spending time together outside of the school is not permitted unless it is in a school-related context, such as a field trip.
Gifts
Partners share the great gift of themselves and their time. Therefore, we suggest that you not bring gifts to your individual student. Gifts that the entire class can enjoy, such as cookies or a pizza party, are permissible and encouraged.
Home Visits
Home visits, to either the student's or Partner's home, are beyond the intended purpose of the Partner Program and are not permitted.
Communicating Outside of School
To protect the privacy of the partner and the student's family, we discourage communication outside of school sponsored activities. Rather than share phone numbers and email addresses, you are always welcome to send your student a note of inspiration and encouragement in care of the school through Mona Kidder at PartnerMornings@CornerstoneSchools.org.
Visiting a Restaurant or Workplace
We prefer that the primary contact between you and your student be done at the school. However, Partners have taken entire classrooms of students to an event or a workplace visit. If you are interested in hosting a group of students, please contact Mona Kidder at the school office. Students are not allowed off campus during lunch time. You are always welcome to eat with your student during a regular lunch period at the school.
Unable to Attend a Partner Morning?
If you cannot make a Partner Morning, a substitute who can spend time with your student provides a great alternative. You may also write a note to your student explaining your absence, but that you are thinking of him or her. You should address the note to your student and send it to Mona Kidder at PartnerMornings@CornerstoneSchools.org.
