Cornerstone’s 20th Anniversary - Thursday, May 19, 2011

More than 500 members of the Cornerstone community gathered at the Andiamo Banquet Center in Warren on Thursday, May 19th to celebrate Cornerstone’s 20th anniversary.

Event emcees, alumna Charlene Boyd and alumnus William McCray, guided the guests through an evening of looking back and planning for the future.

The Cornerstone elementary strings, chamber strings and concert choir performed for the guests to shouts of “bravo” and standing ovations.

Guests heard from former chairman of Cornerstone’s Board, Walter Czarnecki and his wife’s Partner, 6th grader Shelbie McSpadden.  2nd grader Grey Brooks and her Partner, Detroit’s First Lady Yvette Bing, also shared with the audience what it means to them to be partnered with one another.

Current board chair Judge Michael Warren, Jr., Cornerstone Charter Schools CEO Kirk Lewis, and Co-Chair of the Turning Point Invitational K.C. Crain shared with all the vision for Cornerstone’s next twenty years.

The evening concluded with words from Cornerstone co-founder Clark Durant and President/CEO Ernestine Sanders.  They shared the gratitude that all Cornerstone students, parents, faculty and staff have for those who have supported Cornerstone for the first twenty years.

It was an excellent evening for all made possible by our friends at Andiamo and Macro Connect.  Thank you to all who attended and enjoyed this event.
