Student Spotlight

Keyon Williams loves science because it fulfills his inquiring 6th grade mind.  He likes to discover how things work, change and grow.  He is a sports fan who enjoys playing football very much.  Keyon says, “My hero is my granddad, because he tells me right from wrong.”  Keyon would like to have a Partner of his own at Washington-Parks Academy so that he can learn about what that Partner does for a living and what skills are involved in that career.  He enjoys Partner Mornings, but he believes it would be even more fun with a Partner of his own.

Meet Aniya Turner.  She is an energetic Pre-Kindergarten student at Cornerstone’s Nevada Primary school. Aniya loves numbers and counting, and for that reason, math is her favorite subject.  When she is not in school, she likes to play sports on her Wii.  Aniya has two heroes.  They are her mother and her father, because she loves them and they take good care of her.  Aniya currently does not have a Partner of her own, but she would sincerely enjoy the opportunity to make a friend through the Partner program.  She has fun on Partner Mornings, but knows that with a Partner of her own, she could have even more fun.  Aniya thinks the Partner program is important because “…it gives you a chance to share love with others.”

It isn’t often that students list “studying” on their list of favorite things to do outside school, but Lincoln-King Academy 5th grader George Wallace did.  George is an enthusiastic student of history, and finds he can learn even more in his free time.  History is George’s favorite subject, because it is fun to learn about how the country and the world have changed over time.  His hero is Michael Jordan who George believes is not just a great basketball player, but a great man.  He would enjoy learning new things from a Partner, and in turn, he would like to share his talent for singing in the choir, and his love of history, with his own Partner.
