PLATO Program
An individualized software program that empowers students from all grade levels to move at their own pace through core subjects, developing fundamental Reading and Math skills.

Music Program
Cornerstone has an innovative and award-winning music program. All students receive and learn the violin in the 3rd grade.

Foreign Language
Cornerstone’s foreign language program teaches students both Spanish and Mandarin Chinese beginning in Kindergarten.  It teaches fundamental vocabulary, grammar and an appreciation for cultural differences. 

Chess Team
The Cornerstone chess team, the largest chess team in the state, hones student’s’ analytical and thinking skills, in addition to concentration and memory.

Unique Collaboratives
Cornerstone has unique collaboratives with the Cranbrook Educational Community, in Bloomfield Hills, MI and Northwood University, in Midland, MI.  The Cranbrook Educational Community collaborative offers students a heightened social and academic experience through the exchange with Cranbrook students. The Northwood University collaborative provides Cornerstone 8th graders with a comprehensive view of free enterprise, entrepreneurship and economics taught by college professor Brennan Brown.  More than 60 Cornerstone Middle School students have completed ART of Leadership’s seven-year leadership training initiative that got its start at Cornerstone ten years ago.  The ART of Leadership teaches students valuable lessons, allowing them to master the skills of leadership, management and coaching.

Vision of Excellence Program
The Vision of Excellence (VOE) Program is one of Cornerstone’s most original and exciting corporate sponsored programs.   Corporations and foundations sponsor a Cornerstone classroom where together they create a vision of excellence and integrate it with the curriculum. Visions of Excellence initiatives differ by sponsor and provide the students with a memorable and unique learning experience that is unparalleled today in urban education.
