Position: Guidance Counselor

Years at Cornerstone: 3

You graduated 8th grade from Cornerstone…where did your educational journey take you after that?

High School: Cass Tech High School

Undergrad: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor – BA & Music Concentration Degree

Post Bachelor Studies: Music Therapy from Eastern Michigan University

Graduate Degree: Ashland University (Seminary) w/ an MA in Professional Counseling

How did Cornerstone prepare you for what you’re doing now?

I couldn’t be more prepared for Cornerstone as I attended Cornerstone (Linwood and Nevada Campuses) from 5th-8th grade. Some of my teachers became my supervisors and colleagues.  My mother, Dean Robinson, has worked at Cornerstone for over 10 years. My younger brother, Evan, attended Cornerstone (Linwood and Nevada) K-8.

This full circle experience has given me tools throughout work and life that I am able to share with my students as I support them through their experience at Cornerstone.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that the educational and personal connections I’ve made at Cornerstone have given me a deeper purpose as I walk through the halls and engage students and colleagues. Seeing my teachers grow into principals and corporate leads, my mother thrive, and my team being consistent reinforcements of the “Cornerstone way” has made work feel like time with extended family.

What policy, program, or best practice have you undertaken at your school (either alone or as part of a team) that you are most proud of?

Although I enjoy the Supreme Sparty celebrations (recognizing classroom excellence among students), I believe I provide a safe space for students K-8 beyond the classroom. Being able to practice and provide professional counseling and school counseling techniques alongside amazing leads, teachers, and staff gives WPA an opportunity to create a new culture that has shifted our behavioral norms for the better.
